This Privacy Policy explains how Smart Subscription Tracker & Reminder (the "Extension") collects, uses, stores, and protects information when installed and used in the Google Chrome browser. The Extension is built to operate locally in your browser and is designed to minimize data collection and to protect user privacy.

Data We Collect

The Extension only stores information that you explicitly enter into it. This includes:

• Subscription information: service name, amount, renewal date, next renewal date, renewal cycle, notes, and optional subscription URL.
• Local preferences: currency selection, dark mode preference, sort/filter settings, and other UI preferences.

The Extension does not automatically collect browsing history, device identifiers, IP addresses, or any analytics data.

How Data Is Stored

All data is stored locally on the user's device using Chrome's chrome.storage.local API. The data remains on the device and is not transmitted to or stored on external servers by the Extension.

Permissions and Why They Are Needed

The Extension requests only the permissions required for its core functionality:

• storage: To save subscriptions and user preferences locally.
• alarms: To schedule background reminders for upcoming subscription renewals.
• notifications: To display local desktop notifications when a renewal is approaching.
• downloads (optional, requested at runtime): To allow users to export their subscriptions as a JSON backup when they explicitly choose to do so.

The Extension intentionally avoids requesting broad host permissions (for example, <all_urls>) and does not use content scripts or cross-origin network requests in its current design.

Export & Import

Users may export their subscription data to a .json file. If the export feature is invoked, the Extension will request the downloads permission at runtime (only when the user chooses to export). Imported files are processed locally in the browser and saved to chrome.storage.local if the user confirms the import.

Third-Party Services

The Extension does not send data to third-party analytics, advertising networks, or external servers by default. If future versions add integrations with third-party services, the Privacy Policy will be updated and users will be informed.

Data Retention and Deletion

Because data is stored locally, users control their data. To remove data you can:

• Delete individual subscriptions inside the Extension UI.
• Clear all stored data by uninstalling the Extension (Chrome removes extension-specific local storage on uninstall).
• Manually remove storage via Chrome’s extension settings or developer tools.

Children

The Extension is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

Security

We follow standard best practices to limit data exposure: data is stored using the browser's local storage APIs and is not transmitted externally. Users are responsible for securing their device and browser profile. If you believe your data has been exposed due to device compromise, please remove the Extension and reset any affected accounts.

Your Rights

Because data is stored locally and not transmitted to third parties, you have direct control over your information. You may view, edit, export, or delete your subscriptions at any time from within the Extension.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make any material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Extension after changes indicates acceptance of the updated policy.
