Important: Memory Bytes operates with a strong commitment to privacy. Your personal data and inventory information remain entirely on your device and are never transmitted to any external servers or third parties.
Information Collection and Use
The App does not collect, store, or transmit any personal information to external servers. All data remains on your device:
- Inventory Items: All item information, photos, categories, and notes are stored locally on your device
- User Content: Any text you enter for item descriptions, locations, or notes stays on your device
- Photos: Images taken or selected for items are stored locally on your device
- No Personal Identifiers: We do not collect device identifiers, location data beyond item location notes you enter, or usage analytics
Data Usage
All data processing happens locally on your device:
- Item information is stored in a local SQLite database on your device
- Photos are stored in your device's local storage
- Search and filtering operations are performed locally
- Category organization is managed locally
AI Feature Data Handling
When using the optional AI recognition feature:
- Images are temporarily sent to OpenAI or Google Gemini APIs solely for object recognition purposes
- We do not retain copies of your images on our servers
- Recognition results are processed and stored locally on your device
- API calls are made directly from your device to the respective AI service providers
- You maintain control over which images are analyzed using AI
Permissions Used
The App requires the following permissions for proper functionality:
- Camera: To capture photos of items for your inventory
- Photos/Media Storage: To access your photo library and save captured images
- External Storage: To store item photos and manage the local database
- Internet: Only when using optional AI features to connect with API services
- Audio Recording: For potential future voice note functionality (not currently used)
Data Security
We implement appropriate security measures to protect your inventory data:
- All data remains encrypted at the operating system level on your device
- No data is transmitted to external servers unless you explicitly use the AI feature
- Local database is protected by your device's security mechanisms
- Exported backups are stored in your chosen secure location
AI API Security
When using AI features:
- Your API keys are stored securely in device storage and are not shared with us
- Images are sent directly to AI service providers with your consent
- We recommend reviewing the privacy policies of OpenAI and Google for their data handling practices
Data Sharing
We do not share, sell, or distribute your personal information to any third parties:
- No personal data is collected or transmitted to our servers
- No analytics or usage data is collected
- Your inventory information remains completely private to you
- Only you have access to your data unless you choose to share it
Data Retention and Deletion
You have complete control over your data:
- You can delete any item or your entire inventory at any time
- Deleting the App removes all local data from your device
- Exported backups remain in your control and can be deleted as desired
- No data is retained by us after App deletion
Your Rights
As a user, you have the following rights:
- Access: View all your inventory data stored on your device
- Correction: Edit or update any item information
- Deletion: Remove any item or your entire inventory
- Portability: Export your data in various formats
- Opt-out: Choose not to use AI features if desired
Children's Privacy
Memory Bytes does not address anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. You are advised to review this policy periodically for any changes. Changes to this Privacy Policy are effective when they are posted on this page.
