Privacy Policy

Overview

AI Shortlist Comparator (the "Extension") is designed to help users collect and compare items from web pages. The Extension extracts only visible page information (title, price, short description) when a user elects to add a page to a shortlist. The Extension is intentionally privacy-first: it stores data locally on your device and does not transmit user data to any external servers.

Data Collected

The Extension collects and stores the following user-provided or page-derived information in the browser's local storage (chrome.storage.local):

• Custom category metadata (name, emoji/icon).
• Shortlist items: title, URL, price (if present on page), short description, and timestamp.
• Pinned default category and extension ON/OFF state.

No other system-level or personal identifiers are collected (for example: device identifiers, cookies from other sites, or browsing history beyond the current page while actively extracting).

How Data Is Used

Data saved in chrome.storage.local is used solely to:

• Render categories and shortlist items within the extension UI.
• Open the comparison page with selected items.
• Persist a user's preference for a pinned default category and extension state.

No Remote Transmission

The Extension does not send data to any external servers, analytics providers, or 3rd parties. All processing and extraction occur locally in the browser using content scripts and the extension service worker.

Permissions and Why They Are Required

• storage: Persist your categories and shortlist locally on your device.
• activeTab: Allow the extension to access the current page only when you click Add to Shortlist.
• scripting: Inject extraction logic into the active tab to read visible elements (title, price, description) safely and only on-demand.
• tabs: Open comparison pages and communicate between extension components.
• host permissions (http/https): The extension requests broad host patterns to allow the floating button and extraction to work on most websites; no cross-site tracking or requests occur.

User Control

You control everything the Extension stores. You can:

• Delete individual items or clear a category completely.
• Disable the extension via the toggle (the floating button will be hidden).
• Remove the extension at any time from Chrome > Extensions.

Third-Party Services

This Extension does not integrate with or send data to third-party services. If this changes in future updates, the privacy policy will be updated and users will be informed in the release notes and via the extension listing.

Security

Data is stored on the user's device using Chrome's extension storage APIs. Standard Chrome sandboxing and extension security models apply. We recommend users keep Chrome updated to benefit from the latest security patches.
